Jharsuguda cybercrime police arrested a 30-year-old man from Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district and detained a minor for creating fake Instagram accounts to harass a young woman.
The accused, identified as Nand Kumar Chauhan of Bhathora village under Malakharoda police limits, allegedly used obscene photos and videos to threaten and humiliate the victim.
Police registered Case No. 19/2026 after the victim complained that fake accounts were opened in her name, with obscene images used as profile pictures. She also received repeated obscene photos, videos, and threatening messages from multiple mobile numbers, leaving her under severe mental stress.
Investigators collected digital evidence, obtained data from Meta platforms, and analysed call detail records to trace the accused to Chhattisgarh. A special police team conducted a raid and arrested Chauhan, while also detaining a minor involved in the crime.
Authorities confirmed that charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000. The charges include cyberstalking, criminal intimidation, privacy violation, and electronic transmission of obscene material.
