A land dispute in Katapali village under Orkel police limits of Malkangiri district ended in tragedy on Saturday when a man was killed by his nephew.
Police said the accused, identified as 35-year-old Adama Padiami, attacked his uncle Bhima Padiami with a wooden plank after a heated argument over ancestral land. Bhima died on the spot.
According to family members, Adama had been pressuring Bhima to transfer land in his name. When Bhima refused, Adama confronted him near the village field around 3 pm and struck him fatally.
Bhima’s relatives lodged a complaint at Orkel police station. Officers registered Case No. 196/2026 and launched an investigation. A team led by IIC Debadatta Mallik reached the site, seized the body, and began inquiries.
Police confirmed that Adama was arrested on Sunday. Investigators are questioning him to establish the sequence of events and motive.
