The Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack rejected the bail plea of Bhimsen Tudu, accused in the death case of medical student Chandrika Hembram.
The court highlighted the serious social impact and gravity of allegations against the accused.
Chandrika, a third-year student of Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital, Balasore, was found dead on June 4 at the Kathajodi river sandbed near Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Setu under Barang police limits. Following her family’s complaint, police arrested her boyfriend Bhimsen Tudu.
Investigators revealed that despite a long-term relationship, Bhimsen allegedly harassed Chandrika over caste and profession. Reports indicated he developed another relationship, creating tension between the couple.
The Odisha government dismissed Bhimsen from the Odisha Taxation and Accounts Service cadre. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that Bhimsen would not be eligible for future government jobs.
