The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Warning for nine districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, rainfall and strong winds over the next 24 hours.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Bhubaneswar said several parts of the state are likely to witness unstable weather conditions on Friday. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 kmph in the affected districts.
Orange Warning for Nine Odisha Districts
According to the IMD, the following districts are under an Orange Warning:
- Sundargarh
- Keonjhar
- Mayurbhanj
- Nuapada
- Bolangir
- Kandhamal
- Kalahandi
- Rayagada
- Gajapati
These districts are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
Yellow Warning Issued for 21 Districts
Apart from the Orange Warning areas, the IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for 21 districts across Odisha.
The weather department said coastal districts and adjoining interior regions are also likely to receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms during the day.
Fresh Orange Alert for Saturday
The IMD has also issued a fresh Orange Warning for Saturday for the following districts:
- Kalahandi
- Bolangir
- Sonepur
- Boudh
- Kandhamal
These districts may experience thunderstorms with lightning, rainfall and strong winds as the weather system continues to influence the state.
Advisory for Residents
The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning activity.
People are also advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins and follow instructions issued by local authorities if weather conditions worsen.
Monsoon Activity Continues Across Odisha
The latest forecast comes as the southwest monsoon remains active over Odisha, bringing widespread rainfall to several districts over the past few days.
Meteorologists expect unsettled weather conditions to continue across many parts of the state over the weekend, with intermittent rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds likely in several districts.
