In a spirited call to action, Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling has invited all residents to actively participate in the Ayush Ministry’s ambitious Guinness World Record attempt for the largest simultaneous online yoga session on International Yoga Day 2026.
The Minister highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership in elevating yoga from an ancient Indian practice to a global wellness movement. Thanks to India’s initiative, the United Nations declared June 21 as International Yoga Day, spreading yoga’s message of holistic well-being to every corner of the world.
“Yoga is a scientifically proven method for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being,” Dr. Mahaling said. “Regular practice helps prevent lifestyle-related diseases and promotes a healthy, active life.”
This year’s International Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, underscores yoga’s vital role in maintaining physical vitality, mental balance, and quality of life as we grow older.
To set a new Guinness World Record, the Ayush Ministry is organising a massive virtual yoga session on Sunday, 14 June 2026, from 6:15 AM to 7:35 AM. The goal is to bring together the highest number of participants simultaneously from across the country through a single online platform.
Dr Mahaling emphasised that this is more than just a record-breaking attempt — it is a national mission to strengthen the Prime Minister’s “Fit India” vision and transform yoga into a people’s movement. He urged doctors, health workers, students, youth, women, senior citizens, government employees, self-help groups, yoga institutions, and all aware citizens to join individually via their mobile phones or personal devices.
