India demolished Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
The victory marked India’s biggest win in Test cricket history.
India piled up a massive 564 for eight after choosing to bat first. The hosts then bowled out Afghanistan twice on the same day, wrapping up the match on the third day. Afghanistan managed only 152 in the first innings and 112 in the second, falling short by a huge marginturn0edgesection5.
Debutant Manav Suthar starred with the ball, claiming six wickets in the first innings. Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav shared seven wickets in the second innings to seal the emphatic win. Sundar, who also scored a half-century, said he felt in rhythm from the start and enjoyed contributing with both bat and ball.
India’s innings-and-300-run triumph surpassed their previous record wins by innings and 272 runs against West Indies in Rajkot (2018) and by innings and 262 runs against Afghanistan in Bengaluru (2018).
