Mathili police seized three quintals of ganja hidden inside Ghanch forest under Madakapadar panchayat in Khairput block, Malkangiri district, early Saturday morning.
Acting on a tip-off, police teams reached the forest around 5 a.m. and discovered the contraband concealed by ganja smugglers. The seizure took place in the presence of Khairput block additional tehsildar Braja Bihari Pradhan.
Police officials, including SI Manaranjan Pradhan, SI Padman Pujari, and other personnel, jointly carried out the operation. They successfully recovered the ganja that was hidden deep inside the forest.
Authorities suspect that the ganja mafias stored the contraband in the forest to transport it later. Police have launched an investigation to identify the smugglers involved in the racket.
