Authorities recovered the hanging body of BTech student Subashis Parijit from a classroom at a private engineering college in Chhatabar under Mendhasal police limits in Bhubaneswar on June 2.
College staff and students discovered the body in the morning and immediately alerted police. Officers reached the spot and removed the body before sending it for a post‑mortem. Investigators began examining CCTV footage from the classroom and surrounding areas.
Subashis, a resident of Kendrapara district, had come to Bhubaneswar for his studies. His family said he was their only son and expressed deep grief over the incident. They demanded a fair and impartial investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest suicide, but police are also exploring possible foul play. Officials said the post‑mortem report will confirm whether there were injury marks or other evidence.
The incident triggered tension in the Chhatabar area and concern among the student community. Several student organisations are monitoring the investigation closely.
Mendhasal police officials assured that no aspect of the case will be hidden. They emphasised that the probe will cover all angles, including mental health and safety issues in educational institutions.
