A gruesome double murder in Sambalpur’s Giripali Khadiapada area has left the community in shock.
A man allegedly killed a mother and daughter with a sharp weapon while they slept outside their home.
Police identified the victims as Urukuli Patra and her daughter Lilima. Both women were resting in their courtyard when the attacker struck them with a tangia (axe-like weapon). The assault killed them instantly. Officers suspect personal enmity as the motive behind the crime.
After receiving information, police rushed to the scene within the Sasan Police limits and began an investigation. They detained a young neighbour for questioning after locals reported his suspicious behaviour. Sources said Lilima had been staying at her parental home for some time.
A forensic team examined the site and collected evidence. Investigators are verifying whether the accused acted alone or had accomplices. The double murder has triggered fear among residents, who demanded strict action against the culprit.
Officials assured that the case will be solved soon and justice delivered to the victims. The incident exposed growing tension in the area and highlighted the need for stronger community vigilance.
