The Odisha Government withdrew the services of trainee IPS officer Nitesh Kumar Mishra, who held charge of Kabisuryanagar Police Station in Ganjam district, following allegations of custodial death involving a 32-year-old man, Susanta Sahu.
The Finance Department directed the Ganjam Superintendent of Police to post a suitable substitute and transfer all staff from the police station to ensure an impartial investigation.
Authorities suspended Sub-Inspector Sameer Kumar Rout, Assistant Sub-Inspector Baikuntha Jena, and constable Suman Kumar Sahu with immediate effect pending further enquiry. The order also disengaged driver Krushna Chandra Pradhan from duty under the Home Guard organisation.
Officials said the disciplinary measures followed a preliminary enquiry into the alleged custodial death at Kabisuryanagar PS. The government emphasised that further criminal or departmental action would depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
The SP, Ganjam, received instructions to transfer all remaining staff from Kabisuryanagar PS and Balichhai Outpost to other subdivisions to maintain neutrality during the probe.
