Odisha Government Electric Vehicle Procurement 2026

The Odisha Government directed all departments and state-supported institutions to procure electric vehicles (EVs) for official use starting June 1, 2026.

The Finance Department issued an official memorandum outlining mandatory conditions for EV procurement to reduce fuel expenditure and promote sustainable mobility.

The decision follows rising fuel costs and global energy challenges linked to the West Asia crisis. The directive mandates that all new official vehicles must be electric, with exceptions allowed only under special circumstances.

According to the memorandum, the maximum price for new EVs will vary by designation: ₹30 lakh for the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Justice, and High Court Judges; Rs 25 lakh for Ministers, Chief Secretary, and senior officers; and ₹20 lakh for District Judges, Collectors, and Superintendents of Police.

Departments must seek prior concurrence from the Finance Department before purchasing EVs. Vehicles can be procured only after the existing ones complete their lifespan and are scrapped. The government approved models from Tata, Mahindra, and Maruti for official use.

The “One Officer, One Vehicle” principle will apply strictly to all purchases. The directive also extends to government undertakings, universities, and societies supported by the state.

Officials said the move aligns with Odisha’s broader sustainability goals and supports India’s transition toward clean energy.
