A pickup van lost control and ploughed into a roadside shop in Banadunguri, Mayurbhanj district, on Thursday, killing a woman inside.
The accident occurred under Bahalda police station limits when the vehicle, loaded with goods, was traveling from Rairangpur towards Jamshedpur.
Witnesses said the van veered off the road and smashed into the shop, breaking walls, doors, and destroying furniture. The woman inside the shop died instantly due to the impact.
Police reported that the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene immediately after the crash. Authorities have launched a search to trace him.
The collision left the shop severely damaged, with goods and property destroyed. Locals gathered at the site and informed police, who reached the spot and began an investigation.
Officials said the body of the deceased woman was sent for a post-mortem. Police are examining the vehicle and gathering eyewitness accounts to determine the exact cause of the accident.
