Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) achieved a major counter-terrorism breakthrough in Amritsar by arresting two suspected associates of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and recovering two live hand grenades from their possession.
Acting on precise intelligence, the SSOC team launched a targeted operation on May 18 and apprehended Ajay of Bazigar Mohalla in Ajnala along with his accomplice. The recovery of explosives triggered a high alert across security agencies in Punjab.
Preliminary investigations revealed operational linkages between the suspects and foreign-based handlers of the banned outfit BKI. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the grenades were part of a larger conspiracy aimed at targeting government institutions and critical infrastructure to disrupt peace and law and order in the state.
Police registered a case under Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act. Senior officials confirmed that intensive interrogation is underway to trace the source of the explosives and identify intended targets. Authorities plan to seek custodial remand to establish forward and backward linkages and dismantle the wider network.
