LPG Shipment Through Hormuz

A Marshall Islands‑flagged tanker carrying 20,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) reached Gujarat’s Kandla Port on May 13 after crossing the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring the resilience of global energy trade despite escalating geopolitical tensions.

The vessel, identified as Symi, arrived in Kachchh district following its passage through one of the world’s most sensitive maritime corridors. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical chokepoint for international energy supplies, with any disruption capable of impacting fuel prices and freight movement worldwide.

The arrival comes at a time when concerns over maritime security in West Asia have intensified. Iran has sought to reassure trading partners, with Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi recently telling External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar that Tehran remains committed to safeguarding commercial navigation through Hormuz.

India, one of the largest importers of crude oil and LPG, views uninterrupted shipments through the Gulf region as vital to its energy security.
