Kolkata Knight Riders delivered one of the most dominant batting displays of IPL 2026, posting a mammoth 247 for 2 and defeating Gujarat Titans by 29 runs in a high-scoring contest at Eden Gardens.
Opting to bat first after losing the toss, KKR unleashed their top order on a batting-friendly pitch. New Zealand opener Finn Allen set the tone with a breathtaking assault, smashing 93 off just 35 balls, including ten sixes. His explosive knock powered KKR to a flying start and dictated the momentum from the outset.
After Allen’s departure, young Angkrish Raghuvanshi took charge with a composed yet aggressive unbeaten 82 off 44 balls. Cameron Green provided the finishing flourish with an unbeaten 52 off 28 deliveries, helping KKR maintain a staggering run rate above 12 runs per over throughout the innings. The total of 247/2 is among the highest of the season and highlighted KKR’s ability to accelerate in every phase.
In reply, Gujarat Titans mounted a spirited chase but always appeared behind the required asking rate. Skipper Shubman Gill top-scored with a fluent 85 off 49 balls, while Jos Buttler chipped in with 57 off 35. Sai Sudharsan remained unbeaten on 53, but the visitors could only manage 218 for 4 in their 20 overs.
Sunil Narine was instrumental in the middle overs, picking up two crucial wickets to disrupt GT’s rhythm on a pitch that offered little assistance to the bowlers. The difference ultimately lay in KKR’s superior power-hitting and better acceleration, especially in the death overs.
The victory snaps GT’s five-match winning streak and keeps KKR’s faint playoff hopes alive as they head into the business end of the league stage. This match also marked one of the highest aggregates (465 runs) in a KKR vs GT encounter.
