Russia proposed India as a long‑term mediator in the ongoing Iran‑US conflict, citing New Delhi’s extensive diplomatic experience and balanced global standing.
At a media briefing after the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in Delhi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said India could bridge gaps between Iran and its Arab partners. He noted that Pakistan is currently facilitating urgent dialogues but faces credibility concerns.
“Pakistan is helping establish dialogues between the US and Iran to resolve urgent problems. If they seek a long‑term mediator, this role could be played by India, considering its vast diplomatic experience,” Lavrov said.
The statement came as tensions between Iran and the US continue to escalate, with regional powers seeking a sustainable peace framework. Lavrov emphasised that India’s history of maintaining balanced relations with both Washington and Tehran positions it uniquely to mediate future negotiations.
Diplomatic observers view Russia’s endorsement as a strategic signal within BRICS, highlighting India’s growing influence in global conflict resolution.
