A speeding Hayabusa sports bike rammed into a car on the Mahabubnagar bypass in Telangana after midnight on Sunday, killing five people, including two children.
Police said the accident occurred around 1 AM when the car attempted a U-turn and the bike, reportedly travelling at 140 kmph, collided with it. The crash killed two bikers and three car passengers.
The deceased car passengers were identified as Arshiya Begum (30), her daughter Ujepa (7), and her son Amar (2). One biker was identified as Yakub Afzal (25), a resident of Hyderabad, while the other rider remains unidentified.
The injured were rushed to a hospital but succumbed during treatment. Police launched an investigation and are probing whether night racing triggered the fatal collision.
Locals alleged that youngsters frequently use the bypass for late-night racing and stunts, putting lives at risk. They demanded stricter patrolling, installation of CCTV cameras, and special drives against rash driving.
Residents said repeated complaints had been ignored, and the tragedy highlighted the urgent need for enforcement against reckless riders. Authorities assured that measures would be taken to prevent further accidents.
