West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari unveiled six major decisions during the first Cabinet meeting of the new BJP government, focusing on border security, job recruitment, and governance reforms.
Adhikari announced the transfer of 600 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for fencing the India-Bangladesh border within 45 days. He directed officials to expedite the process to strengthen border infrastructure and curb infiltration and smuggling.
The Cabinet also approved the immediate start of census operations after an eleven-month delay under the previous administration. Adhikari confirmed the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme and ordered the rollout of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), replacing the earlier criminal law framework.
In employment reforms, the government granted a five-year age relaxation for candidates who missed recruitment opportunities in previous years. Adhikari restored the policy allowing IAS, IPS, and WBPS officers to train in other states. Later, he reviewed law and order with senior officials to assess administrative readiness.
Adhikari thanked voters, security forces, and election officials for ensuring a peaceful election, calling it Bengal’s first “deathless, intimidation-free” poll. He pledged justice for victims of political violence and promised inclusive governance.
The BJP’s victory in 207 of 294 Assembly seats marked the end of Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year rule, ushering in a new phase of governance in West Bengal.
