A shocking incident unfolded in Malkangiri district today when villagers tied a youth to a pole after catching him for allegedly abducting a child in MV-114 village under Motu police station.

Reports revealed that the accused, identified as Subrat Mandal of MV-60 village, attempted to kidnap a five-year-old boy early Monday morning. Subrat allegedly wanted to force his lover to return to him by abducting her child. He mistakenly took away a neighbour’s son instead.

According to sources, Subrat had developed a relationship with a woman while working in Andhra Pradesh. The woman later returned to her native village, MV-114 and stopped communicating with him. In desperation, Subrat entered the village before dawn and abducted the child, believing the woman would come back to him.

Villagers noticed the abduction and chased the youth. They rescued the child near the village and overpowered Subrat. In anger, they tied him to a pole and informed the Motu police. Officers reached the spot, rescued the accused, and took him into custody.
