Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep anguish over a shocking murder reported from Kharida village under his Hinjili constituency in Odisha. In a formal letter addressed to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Patnaik called for immediate and decisive action by law enforcement authorities.

Details of the Incident
According to reports cited in the letter, a pregnant woman was allegedly murdered in a brutal attack in front of her three-year-old daughter. The incident reportedly occurred while the victim was staging a peaceful protest (dharna) outside her partner’s residence, seeking justice. The accused is said to be the brother of her partner.

Disturbing Visuals Spark Outrage
The incident has triggered widespread shock and outrage, particularly due to disturbing visuals showing the young child crying beside her mother’s body. Patnaik noted that the incident has “shocked the conscience of Odisha,” highlighting the emotional and social impact of the crime.

Demand for Immediate Police Action
In his letter, the Leader of Opposition urged the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, to direct the police to arrest all accused persons without delay. He emphasised the need for swift justice to ensure accountability and maintain public trust in the legal system.

Call for Child Welfare and Rehabilitation
Patnaik also appealed for urgent state support for the victim’s three-year-old daughter. He requested that the government provide immediate care, compensation, and long-term rehabilitation to safeguard the child’s future.

Appeal for Personal Intervention
Concluding his letter, Patnaik sought the Chief Minister’s personal intervention to ensure strict punishment for the perpetrators and to prevent such incidents from recurring. The case has intensified discussions around women’s safety and law enforcement responsiveness in the state.
