Trump Warns of Renewed Strikes on Iran Amid Fragile Peace Talks Proposal

Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, stating that military strikes could resume “if they misbehave,” even as he reviews a new peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.

The warning follows reports by Iranian news agencies that Tehran has sent a 14-point proposal through Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator in the crisis. The proposal reportedly includes measures to end hostilities across all fronts and introduce a new operational framework for the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Trump Signals Caution, Keeps Military Option Open

Speaking before departing from Florida, Trump said he had been briefed on the “concept” of the proposal and was awaiting full details. However, he expressed skepticism over its acceptability, suggesting that Iran had not faced sufficient consequences for its actions.

When asked about the possibility of renewed military action, Trump did not rule it out. “If they misbehave… it’s a possibility,” he said, indicating that the US remains prepared to escalate if necessary.

Conflict Status and Diplomatic Efforts

The conflict—initiated in late February involving the United States and Israel—has been paused since April 8. A previous round of peace talks held in Pakistan failed to produce a breakthrough.

According to reports, the latest Iranian proposal outlines a phased approach, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz within a month, lifting the US naval blockade, and moving toward a permanent end to hostilities in Iran and Lebanon. Further negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme are expected only after initial agreements are reached.

Iran Responds: Prepared for Diplomacy or Conflict

Senior Iranian military official Mohammad Jafar Asadi stated that a renewed conflict with the United States remains likely, citing distrust over Washington’s commitments.

Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran is ready for both diplomacy and confrontation. “The ball is in the United States’ court,” he said, urging Washington to choose between negotiation and escalation.

Global Impact and Rising Concerns

The situation has already had significant global repercussions. Disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz—a critical oil transit route—have led to a sharp rise in energy prices, raising economic concerns worldwide.

In the United States, the developments are also being closely watched for their potential political impact, particularly with midterm elections approaching.
