90 Years of Odia Cinema: CM Mohan Majhi Celebrates Legacy of ‘Sita Bibaha’

Marking a significant cultural milestone, Mohan Charan Majhi extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Odisha on the 90th anniversary of Odia cinema on April 28, 2026.


He described the occasion as a “golden moment” in the state’s cultural history, highlighting the enduring legacy of the regional film industry.


Remembering the Beginning: ‘Sita Bibaha’ (1936)

The Chief Minister emphasised the historic importance of April 28, 1936—the day the first Odia film, Sita Bibaha, was released. This landmark moment marked the beginning of Odia cinema’s journey, laying the foundation for a vibrant storytelling tradition rooted in regional identity.

In his message, he noted that this milestone represents the starting point of a cinematic journey defined by creativity, resilience, and cultural pride.


A Journey of Growth and Cultural Expression

Reflecting on the evolution of the industry, CM Majhi acknowledged that Odia cinema has overcome numerous challenges to establish a unique identity on the global stage. He highlighted its role in promoting the Odia language, preserving traditions, and showcasing the richness of regional culture.

He further underlined that cinema serves not only as entertainment but also as a powerful medium for cultural expression and social awareness.


Tribute to Pioneers and Artists

Paying tribute to the stalwarts of the industry, Mohan Charan Majhi recognised the invaluable contributions of actors, actresses, directors, producers, and technicians who have shaped Odia cinema over the decades.

He emphasised that their dedication and creativity have built a strong foundation for future generations of filmmakers and artists.
