Rafael Nadal returned to the court in spectacular fashion—this time inside Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
The Madrid Open set up a temporary tennis court on the field, allowing players to practice there until April 30.
Nadal, a lifelong Real Madrid fan and five-time Madrid Open champion, teamed up with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for a friendly doubles match against World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and midfielder Jude Bellingham. The event blended tennis and football in a striking display of sporting unity.
Bellingham, who attended the Madrid Open earlier to watch young Spanish player Rafael Jódar’s debut, joined the exhibition match that drew widespread attention online. Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez reportedly acted as chair umpire during the friendly.
“It was very special to enjoy this unique court at the Bernabeu,” Nadal wrote on Instagram after the match. The retired legend’s appearance thrilled fans and underscored his enduring connection to Madrid and Spanish sport.
Iga Swiatek, ranked No. 4 on the women’s tour, also attended the Bernabeu event, adding further star power to the occasion. The Madrid Open continues at the Caja Mágica complex, but the Bernabeu exhibition has already become one of the tournament’s most talked-about moments.
