President Droupadi Murmu addressed the Samajik Samrasta Mahotsava at Lok Bhavan in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on April 14, 2026, marking the birth anniversary of Dr B. R. Ambedkar.
She paid heartfelt tributes to Babasaheb, describing him as a nation-builder whose contributions extended beyond drafting the Constitution to areas such as banking, irrigation, electricity, and revenue-sharing frameworks.
The President highlighted Ambedkar’s emphasis on education, noting that the Constitution recognises it as a Fundamental Right. She urged collective responsibility to encourage marginalised communities to pursue education, stressing that moral education strengthens social harmony.
Murmu underscored that compassion and harmony are interconnected, stating that unity thrives when citizens rise above divisions of caste, class, language, and region. She reminded the audience that equality without discrimination forms the foundation of true democracy.
She praised Gujarat’s initiatives in promoting social harmony through tree plantation, sanitation, animal husbandry, agriculture, and welfare schemes. She emphasised that these efforts reflect the spirit of inclusive development.
Quoting Ambedkar’s concluding speech in the Constituent Assembly, the President reiterated that social democracy embraces liberty, equality, and fraternity. She said this message remains eternally relevant for India’s progress.
The event celebrated Ambedkar’s legacy while reinforcing the importance of harmony for holistic and equitable growth.
