Commercial LPG Prices Hiked by Rs 195.5 Amid Global Oil Supply Concerns

India has witnessed a sharp increase in commercial LPG prices, with state-run oil companies raising rates by ₹195.5 per 19 kg cylinder starting April 1, 2026.

The revision comes amid rising global oil prices and supply concerns triggered by ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Latest LPG Prices in Major Cities

Following the hike, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in New Delhi now stands at ₹2,078.50. Reports indicate even higher increases in cities like Kolkata, where prices have risen by ₹218.

Meanwhile, domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged. A 14.2 kg household cylinder continues to cost ₹913 in Delhi, with the last revision implemented earlier in March.

Why Are LPG Prices Rising?

The latest price surge is largely driven by global energy market instability. The ongoing tensions involving United States and Iran have disrupted oil supply chains, especially around the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.

This narrow waterway handles nearly 20% of the world’s crude oil shipments. Any disruption in this region directly impacts fuel prices worldwide, including in India.

Jet Fuel Prices Also Revised

Alongside LPG, Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices have also been increased across major Indian metros:

  • Delhi: ₹2,07,341.22 per kilolitre
  • Kolkata: ₹2,05,953.33 per kilolitre
  • Mumbai: ₹1,94,968.67 per kilolitre
  • Chennai: ₹2,14,597.66 per kilolitre

Rising ATF costs may further impact airfares and travel expenses in the coming weeks.

Impact on Businesses and Consumers

The hike in commercial LPG prices is expected to directly affect restaurants, hotels, and small businesses that rely heavily on bulk gas cylinders. Increased operational costs may lead to higher food prices and service charges for consumers.

However, relief for households comes in the form of stable domestic LPG rates—for now.

Government Push for Alternatives

In response to rising LPG dependency, the Indian government is encouraging a shift towards Piped Natural Gas (PNG), which is considered more stable and less vulnerable to global supply disruptions.

The latest LPG price hike highlights how global geopolitical developments continue to influence India’s domestic fuel market. With ongoing uncertainty in oil supply routes, further price volatility cannot be ruled out.
