Police arrested an accused who had earlier escaped from Brahmabarada police station in Jajpur district.
The fugitive was caught in a cashew orchard under the Dharmasala police station limits.
The accused had fled from custody after being arrested in a theft case ten months ago. During his escape, he also stole a motorcycle and remained absconding. His sudden disappearance embarrassed the local police and triggered disciplinary action.
Following the incident, the Superintendent of Police suspended one ASI and two constables for negligence. The escape raised serious questions about security lapses inside the police station.
On Saturday, acting on a tip-off, a police team tracked the accused to a cashew orchard. Officers surrounded the area and managed to apprehend him after a brief chase.
The arrest has brought relief to the local administration, which faced criticism for failing to keep the accused in custody. Police confirmed that further interrogation will continue to uncover details about his activities during the absconding period.
