Six Maoists surrendered with weapons in Chhattisgarh, joining the mainstream after years in the jungle.
Maoists Lay Down Arms
Authorities confirmed that six Maoists from the Rajnandgaon and Kanker Division Committees surrendered before the police. The surrendered members include SCM Mangesh Padiami, SCM Ganesh Vike, SCM Mangli Juri, SCM Hidme Markam, SCM Raje, and PPCM member Swaroopa Usendi.
They handed over one SLR rifle and three .303 rifles during the surrender. Police assured them of financial assistance and rehabilitation under the government’s policy.
Impact of Operations and Rehabilitation
Officials said continuous anti-Maoist operations and rehabilitation schemes motivated the surrender. The government’s deadline for Maoists to join the mainstream is only five days away, and more cadres are expected to surrender.
Over the past 26 months, nearly 2,700 Maoists have surrendered across Odisha and neighbouring states. With the latest development, the Kanker district is now considered free from Maoist influence.
