Odisha Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on Tuesday as opposition legislators from Congress and BJD stormed the well of the House wearing black T-shirts and shouting slogans.
Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned proceedings till 11:30 am after repeated disruptions during Question Hour.
Opposition members demanded the resignation of the Health Minister over the SCB Medical College fire tragedy that claimed 13 lives. They accused the government of failing to take moral responsibility. Both Congress and BJD legislators united in protest, creating a ruckus from the very start of proceedings.
The Speaker attempted to restore order but adjourned the House as the uproar intensified. This marks yet another day of stalled Assembly business, with the opposition refusing to relent until the minister steps down.
Opposition leaders said the protest symbolised their anger and solidarity with victims’ families. They vowed to continue disrupting proceedings until accountability is fixed. BJP members countered the demand, calling it baseless and accusing the opposition of staging drama to hide internal conflicts.
