Monalisa Bhonsle, who became an internet sensation during the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, is once again making headlines after her recent marriage to Farman Khan sparked public debate and social media controversy.
The couple tied the knot earlier this month at the Nainar Temple in Arumanoor, located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The ceremony was reportedly attended by several leaders from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), including V. Sivankutty, M. V. Govindan, and A. A. Rahim.
Allegations Raised by Family
The controversy began after Monalisa’s family in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, claimed that she married against their wishes.
Her father, Jaysingh Bhonsle, alleged that individuals had approached the family earlier this month, promising to help Monalisa pursue opportunities in films and acting training. According to him, he accompanied her to Kerala, where she later married Farman Khan.
Family members also alleged that Monalisa had been lured with promises of acting opportunities.
Age Controversy and Police Response
Some reports suggested that Monalisa might be underage, but she has strongly denied those claims.
During a press interaction, Monalisa Bhonsle said she is 18 years old and described reports about her being underage as “fake and incorrect.”
Police officials confirmed that she is legally an adult and therefore free to marry a person of her choice under Indian law.
Couple Rejects ‘Love Jihad’ Claims
The marriage also drew attention after some commentators labelled the relationship as a case of “love jihad,” a claim that the couple has firmly rejected.
Farman Khan and Monalisa stated that their relationship was based on mutual choice and respect, adding that religion should not divide people in the arts or personal relationships.
From Viral Fame to Film Aspirations
Monalisa first gained widespread attention during the Mahakumbh 2025, where videos and photos of her went viral on social media due to her striking appearance.
Originally from Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh and belonging to the Pardhi community, she reportedly received offers related to acting after her sudden online popularity.
According to family members, she had also signed projects in the film industry and was pursuing training in acting before her marriage.
