India’s Yuki Bhambri entered his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 semi-final at Indian Wells, partnering Sweden’s Andre Goransson to defeat Alexander Erler and Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 7-6(2).
The unseeded duo maintained their flawless run, not dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
Bhambri and Goransson launched their campaign with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 win over David Pel and Fabrice Martin. They followed up with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Sander Arends and Jiri Lehecka in the Round of 16. Their latest triumph secured a place in the last four, where they await the winners of Khachanov/Rublev and Rinderknech/Vacherot.
This milestone marks Bhambri’s maiden semi-final at the Masters 1000 level, after two previous quarter-final appearances in 2025—Indian Wells with Goransson and Miami with Nuno Borges. His steady rise reflects consistent performances across major tournaments.
Last month, Bhambri climbed to a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 20, becoming the first Indian men’s doubles player to break into the Top 20 since Rohan Bopanna. Earlier this year, he reached the third round of the Australian Open with Goransson, collecting crucial points to boost his ranking.
Bhambri’s breakthrough began in 2025, when he reached the US Open semi-finals with Michael Venus and won his first ATP 500 title in Dubai with Alexei Popyrin. That victory came after saving four match points against reigning Grand Slam champions Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten.
With his current momentum, Bhambri continues to strengthen his position as India’s leading doubles player, aiming for a historic final appearance at Indian Wells.
