A total of 15 Maoist cadres of the Bolangir‑Bargarh‑Mahasamund (BBM) division surrendered before police in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday night.

The group included senior leaders, divisional committee members, area committee members, and platoon members.

Police identified the cadres as Vikash, Dinesh, Kavita, Savita, Mangesh, Rinku, Jugnu, Asmita, Sasmita, Amita, Holika, Rita, Neela, Meena, and Baby. Among them, one served as a Special Zonal Committee Member, two as Divisional Committee Members, five as Area Committee Members, and seven as Platoon Members.

The group handed over a large cache of weapons, including three AK‑47 rifles, two SLRs, three .303 rifles, three 12‑bore guns, two INSAS rifles, and one musket. Police confirmed that the surrender followed initial contact facilitated by a local journalist and coordination by state intelligence units.

Authorities said the cadres will receive rehabilitation benefits under the state’s policy after verification. Police credited intensified operations, new security camps, improved road connectivity, and development outreach for weakening Maoist influence in the district.

The Centre has set a deadline of March 31 to eliminate Left‑Wing Extremism from the country. Officials described the surrender as a significant step toward achieving that goal.
