A wild elephant attacked three friends in Khurda’s Tangi forest, killing one and leaving two others with a narrow escape.

The victim, Babuli Parida of Narmanavi village, lost his life on Tuesday evening while returning home with his companions from a nearby jungle. Eyewitnesses reported that the elephant suddenly emerged from dense bushes and charged at the group. Two friends managed to flee, but Babuli was caught and trampled by the enraged animal.

Babuli had planned to drop his daughter for her matriculation examination the following day. His sudden death has devastated the family and shocked the community.

The Tangia forest range shelters more than 20 wild elephants. These elephants frequently stray into villages, damaging crops and property, and creating fear among residents. Locals have repeatedly raised concerns about the growing human-elephant conflict in the region.

Forest officials assured Babuli’s family of compensation and support. They emphasised their commitment to assist the bereaved family. However, villagers demanded stronger preventive measures to reduce elephant attacks and protect lives.
