Police seized 1025 kilograms of ganja from a truck near the MV-96 junction on National Highway-326 in Malkangiri district.
Officers arrested the driver and confiscated the Ashok Leyland goods carrier truck.
The MV-79 police team intercepted the vehicle on February 21 after receiving a tip-off. During the search, police discovered 41 plastic bags filled with ganja. Investigators revealed that the consignment was being transported to Hyderabad, Telangana.
The arrested driver, Jhavar Singh (42), son of Govind Singh from Rajputana village in Nagaur district, Rajasthan, was admitted to smuggling ganja for high profits. Police suspect a larger network is involved and continue their investigation.
MV-79 police registered Case No. 29/2026 under NDPS Act Sections 20(b)(ii)(C), 27-A, and 29. Inspector Purnima Tete filed the complaint, while Sub-Inspector Subrat Kumar Panigrahi from Motu police station is leading the investigation.
