India and Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the postal sector, marking a major step in bilateral collaboration.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi by India’s Minister of Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, and Brazil’s Minister of Communications, H.E. Mr Frederico de Siqueira Filho, during the State Visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between India’s Department of Posts and Brazil’s Ministry of Communications. It focuses on knowledge exchange, modernisation of postal systems, and leveraging networks for economic growth and financial inclusion.

Key areas of collaboration include:

  • Sharing best practices in postal policies and operations
  • Strengthening universal service and addressing systems
  • Cooperation in digital transformation, e-commerce logistics, and postal financial services
  • Capacity building, training, and technical exchanges
  • Joint initiatives and strategic projects of mutual interest
  • Enhanced coordination in multilateral forums such as the Universal Postal Union (UPU)
  • Promotion of South–South cooperation for inclusive growth

The partnership will be implemented through exchange visits, joint workshops, training programs, and structured information sharing. India will share its experience in large-scale postal transformation, including digital services and citizen-centric delivery models.

The MoU will remain in force for five years, with automatic renewal provisions. Officials emphasised that the agreement reinforces the India–Brazil Strategic Partnership and contributes to deeper engagement between the two countries as leading voices of the Global South.
