Security agencies in Delhi raised a high alert after intelligence inputs revealed a possible terror plot by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba targeting crowded religious and heritage sites.
An intelligence note indicated that terrorists may attempt an improvised explosive device (IED) attack near the Red Fort and temples in Chandni Chowk. The suspected plan reportedly links to a retaliatory move following the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad. Agencies warned that prominent temples across India could remain vulnerable.
Delhi Police and central security forces intensified surveillance in Old Delhi. They deployed additional personnel, increased vehicle checks, and conducted anti-sabotage inspections near temples and tourist hubs. Security teams focused on Chandni Chowk and Red Fort areas, which draw large crowds daily.
Officials emphasised the seriousness of the threat and urged vigilance. The intelligence alert highlighted Lashkar’s intent to strike symbolic locations, aiming to create panic and disrupt public life. Security agencies continue monitoring movements and communications to prevent any attempt.
This security alert underscores the persistent threat posed by terror outfits and the importance of proactive measures. Authorities remain determined to safeguard religious sites and heritage landmarks in Delhi.
