Woman Dies After Jumping from Mahanadi Bridge in Sambalpur

A 22-year-old woman from Mahatab Nagar, identified as Anju Kumhar, died after jumping from the Mahanadi bridge in Burla on February 17.


According to police, the woman had been living separately from her family for the past seven months. Eyewitnesses reported that she was seen near the bridge before the incident. Some bystanders tried to dissuade her, but she jumped after speaking briefly on her mobile phone.

Local police rushed to the spot and took her to Burla hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

A video of the incident circulated on social media, sparking discussions in the city. Police have registered an unnatural death case and confirmed that further investigation will be conducted based on family complaints.
