A fire broke out late Sunday night near the revered Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, after an electrical transformer caught fire along the busy Bada Danda stretch.
According to preliminary reports, the transformer—located approximately 100 metres from the temple premises—suddenly went up in flames while temple rituals were underway. At the time of the incident, devotees were standing in queues for darshan, prompting immediate concern among worshippers and local residents.
Fire Services Act Swiftly
Eyewitnesses stated that the transformer remained ablaze for more than an hour before the situation was brought under control. Upon receiving information, fire services personnel promptly reached the site and successfully doused the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby establishments and commercial structures.
No injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
