A science teacher at Kundheigola High School in Deogarh district has been detained by police following allegations of inappropriate behaviour toward a minor student.
Police confirmed that teacher Tapan Kumar Mishra was taken into custody after a written complaint was filed by the mother of an eighth-grade student. The case has been registered under the POCSO Act Section 12 and BNS Section 75. Investigations are underway, and Mishra will be produced in court after the victim’s statement is recorded.
The incident sparked outrage among parents and guardians. In protest, they locked the school’s main gate and demanded strict action, including the teacher’s transfer. Classes were disrupted as students and parents staged demonstrations outside the school premises.
According to the complaint, the teacher allegedly engaged in inappropriate conversations with girl students, including asking them about “Valentine’s Week” observances and urging them to bring chocolates on “Chocolate Day.” The matter came to light after one student informed her family, leading to the formal complaint.
The School Management Committee discussed the issue before forwarding it to the police. District education authorities stated that while they have not yet received a written complaint, instructions have been issued to investigate, and action will be taken if the allegations are proven.
