The legal troubles of controversial performer Nisha Maharana deepened today as she appeared before the SDJM Court in Bolangir following a conditional anticipatory bail granted by the High Court.
Maharana, known for her provocative dance performances at various opera pendals across Odisha, had been booked by police after staging an obscene dance show at Chandanhbati village’s jatra stage. The incident drew widespread criticism and led to police registering a case against her.
Two organisers of the event were earlier arrested by the Bolangir police. Fearing arrest, Maharana had applied for anticipatory bail, which was granted with conditions. On Tuesday, she surrendered through her lawyer in compliance with the court’s directive.
Maharana has often been in the spotlight for her controversial remarks and performances, which have sparked debates across television channels and social media.
