Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a pointed remark directed at Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, amid sustained sloganeering by opposition members during his address in Parliament.
The comment came while the Prime Minister was delivering the motion of thanks on the President’s address. His speech faced repeated interruptions as opposition MPs raised slogans, prompting Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to call for order and parliamentary decorum.
Referring to Kharge, PM Modi remarked that the senior leader could continue expressing dissent while remaining seated, drawing attention to his age. The statement triggered sharper reactions from opposition benches, intensifying the disruptions in the House.
Soon after the remark, opposition members increased their protests before staging a walkout from the Rajya Sabha, further halting proceedings.
The session reflected heightened political tensions, with both sides holding firm to their positions as debates around decorum, dissent, and parliamentary conduct dominated the floor.
