Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi welcomed the Union Budget 2026-27 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament today.
He described it as a historic and youth-centric budget that strengthens India’s growth trajectory while ensuring Odisha’s development.
Majhi emphasised that the budget focuses on skill development for young people, enabling them to compete globally and contribute confidently to national progress. He called it a “Youth Power Budget” that empowers the next generation.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s allocation of Rs 12.2 lakh crore for capital expenditure, which will accelerate infrastructure growth. He noted that the Modi government has already introduced 350 structural reforms, pushing India closer to the vision of a self-reliant and developed nation.
Key Announcements for Odisha
Majhi expressed gratitude for several Odisha-specific measures:
- A Rare-Earth Corridor to reduce import dependence and boost local industries.
- Inclusion in the Eastern Coastal Development Corridor, with tourism hubs and 4,000 e-buses for public transport.
- Operationalisation of National Waterway-5, linking mineral-rich Talcher and Angul with Paradip and Dhamra ports.
- Creation of City Economic Regions, including the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Paradip-Puri corridor.
- Development of Turtle Trails near nesting sites to promote eco-tourism.
- Expansion of rural employment through the new VB-G RAM G scheme, guaranteeing 125 days of work per household.
- Support for high-value crops like coconut, cashew, and sandalwood.
Majhi assured that Odisha will leverage these initiatives to strengthen industry across districts. He pointed to plans for textile units in Balangir, Kalahandi, and Subarnapur, where cotton farming is prominent.
Majhi concluded that the Union Budget provisions will help achieve the vision of a prosperous Odisha and a developed India.
