Sunny Deol’s “Border 2” has stormed the domestic box office with a massive Rs 32.10 crore net collection on Day 1, making it one of the biggest openings in recent times.
Released nationwide on January 23, the film drew strong footfalls from early morning shows, with audiences flocking to cinemas for the Republic Day weekend.
Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by T-Series and J P Films, the sequel revisits the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan war, echoing the legacy of J. P. Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border. Alongside Sunny Deol, the film features Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, with Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana in pivotal roles.
Despite its roaring start in India, Border 2 faced restrictions abroad, as six Gulf nations — Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE — reportedly denied clearance due to its alleged anti-Pakistan narrative. This makes it the second Indian film recently barred in the region after Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar.
Producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J. P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta hailed the film’s opening as “colossal,” noting that the patriotic theme resonated strongly with audiences during the Republic Day celebrations.
