Security forces intensified combing operations in Maoist-prone areas of Kandhamal district as part of the nationwide drive to eliminate Naxal and Maoist activities.

On Thursday morning, a joint team comprising the Special Operations Group (SOG), District Voluntary Force (DVF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a large-scale operation in the Gangrel forest along the Kandhamal-Kalahandi border. The team achieved a major breakthrough by busting a Maoist camp.

During the raid, forces seized a significant cache of arms and Maoist materials. The recovery included 13 rifles, several walkie-talkies, solar panels, electric wires, medicines, and other items used by Maoist cadres. Officials confirmed that the seizure marks one of the biggest successes in recent anti-Maoist operations in the region.

Security sources indicated that several hardcore Maoists are suspected to be hiding in the dense forest. The joint team continues combing operations to flush out remaining cadres and dismantle their network.

Police and paramilitary forces have stepped up operations across Maoist-affected districts, aiming to neutralise camps and prevent regrouping. The intensified drive reflects the government’s commitment to meet its deadline of making the country free from Naxal and Maoist influence.

Authorities said the operation will continue until the area is fully secured. The successful bust of the Maoist camp has boosted morale among security forces and reinforced confidence in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
