TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) reaffirmed that smart meters deployed across its distribution area record electricity consumption with the same accuracy as conventional meters.
To build consumer confidence, the utility set up live display arrangements at 20 Customer Care Centres (CCCs), inviting the public to compare smart and conventional meters side by side.
TPCODL clarified that smart meters neither alter nor inflate electricity consumption. Billing continues strictly on actual usage recorded by the meter, supported by automated checks and validation processes.
As part of its transparency drive, the utility invited consumers, resident welfare associations, and media representatives to visit designated CCCs. Visitors can observe meter readings, displayed parameters, and consumption behaviour in real time. The setup allows them to independently verify that both smart and conventional meters function identically.
Moreover, TPCODL assured that every smart meter undergoes five mandatory tests before installation. These include the Accuracy Test, No-Load Test, Meter Constant Test, Display Test, and Communication Test. Reputed manufacturers calibrate the meters in line with Indian Standards, and NABL-accredited laboratories validate them on automated test benches.
Additionally, the utility emphasised its commitment to community outreach and awareness initiatives. It pledged to continue providing authentic information and responsive platforms to address consumer queries and concerns related to smart metering.
Consumers can visit their nearest division office between 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday, for details and support.
