With millions of devotees and tourists expected to arrive from across India and abroad for the world-famous Rath Yatra 2026, Puri Police have begun extensive preparations to ensure public safety, peace, and smooth traffic management.

On Friday morning, Puri SP Prateek Singh led a micro-level review and ground inspection across several lanes, by-lanes, and localities of the city. Starting around 7 AM, the inspection covered key areas including Dakshindwar, Dhanakuti Sahi, Barahi Lane, Kamaksha Chhak, Jambeswar Temple, Harachandi Sahi, Manikarnika Sahi, and Gandua Choura Chhak. These areas witness heavy footfall during Rath Yatra and on regular days.

During the inspection, SP Singh personally examined lane width, road conditions, potential traffic bottlenecks, illegal parking spots, crowd-prone zones, dark stretches, lighting arrangements, CCTV coverage, and emergency rescue routes. He instructed local police officers, division heads, and field officials to identify possible challenges in advance and prepare accordingly.

Speaking on the occasion, SP Singh said, “Puri is the abode of Lord Jagannath and a global centre of faith. During the Rath Yatra and tourist season, lakhs of devotees and visitors come to Puri. Ensuring their safety, convenience, and positive experience is the top priority of Puri Police. That is why we are conducting micro-level reviews across lanes and by-lanes.”

Puri Police have appealed to residents, traders, hotel owners, and tourists to cooperate. Authorities urged people to immediately report suspicious activities, antisocial elements, or emergencies by dialling 112 or contacting the nearest police station.

Special emphasis is being placed on women’s safety, with assurances that women can approach the police without hesitation in case of any problem. To strengthen security and crowd management, Puri Police will continue micro-level reviews, route management, foot patrolling, naka checks, and modern surveillance measures.

City DSP Rashmi Ranjan Mahapatra and SSMASVI Assistant Commandant Vijay Nanda also joined the inspection.
