A violent clash erupted near the Kali Temple at the new bus stand under Baidyanathpur police limits in Berhampur, where a youth was attacked by a group of assailants.
The victim has been identified as Amit Mukhi, a resident of Asika Road, Dhanmera Sahi. Reports said several youths armed with sharp weapons attacked him, leaving him critically injured. Locals rescued Amit and rushed him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Berhampur SP Dr Sraban Vivek M reached the hospital after receiving information and began an inquiry into the incident.
Sources revealed that Amit had been involved in a previous clash with youths from Dhanmera Sahi a few days ago. The attack appears to have stemmed from that earlier enmity.
Police have launched an investigation and intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the attackers.
