The Directorate of Census Operations announced that the first phase of the Odisha Census will begin in April 2026.
Census Director Nikhil Pawan Kalyan shared the details after a meeting of the State-Level Census Coordination Committee.
Officials confirmed that the first phase will focus on listing households and recording assets. The second phase, scheduled for February 2027, will involve door-to-door enumeration of individuals across the state.
Lakhs of census officers will be appointed to carry out the exercise. In addition, citizens will have the option to register their information directly on the official census website, making the process more accessible and transparent.
The census will provide crucial data for planning and development. Authorities emphasised that accurate household and population records are essential for resource allocation, welfare schemes, and infrastructure projects.
