A major security alert ahead of New Year celebrations was reported in Rajasthan’s Tonk district after police arrested two individuals and seized around 150 kg of explosive material from their vehicle on Wednesday.

According to officials, the operation was carried out by the District Special Team (DST) of Tonk police following specific intelligence inputs.

Explosives Hidden in Fertiliser Sacks

The arrested persons have been identified as Surendra Patwa and Surendra Mochi, both residents of Bundi district. Police said the suspects were intercepted in the Baroni police station area, where a search of their car led to the recovery of ammonium nitrate concealed in sacks of urea fertiliser.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Mrityunjay Mishra said the accused were allegedly transporting the explosive material from Bundi to Tonk for supply.

Additional Seizures Raise Concern

Apart from ammonium nitrate, police also seized:

  • 200 cartridges

  • Six bundles of safety fuse wire, measuring approximately 1,100 metres

  • The vehicle used for transportation

Officials said the swift action helped prevent a potential threat during the sensitive New Year period.

Investigation Underway

Police are currently questioning the accused and conducting a detailed investigation to determine the source, intended use, and possible links of the seized explosive materials. Authorities are also examining whether the consignment was meant for illegal activities, including unlawful mining or other criminal operations.
