Amid growing murmurs of dissatisfaction within the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) from senior leaders to young cadres following the party’s recent electoral defeat, senior MLA and former Assembly Speaker Pramila Mallik has firmly stated that there is no internal discord in the party. She emphasised that ongoing discussions are solely aimed at analysing the loss and providing suggestions to strengthen the organisation.
Meanwhile, BJD’s Discipline Committee member Sarada Prasanna Jena reiterated that no one in the party is disobedient, though differences in opinion are natural, and any statements detrimental to the party or its leadership will be reviewed by the committee.
Addressing the speculations of infighting, Pramila Mallik clarified, “There is no discord anywhere in the BJD. No finger-pointing or blame games are happening. No one is holding specific individuals responsible. Badri bhai (referring to senior leader Badri Narayan Patra) hasn’t said anything against the party. After the defeat, we’re just having discussions. There are no barriers for anyone to meet Naveen babu (Naveen Patnaik). Badri babu is a veteran member of the party and can meet him whenever he wishes. He has never engaged in anti-party activities or spoken against the party.” She added that the focus is on identifying the reasons for the loss through internal deliberations and offering advice to fortify the BJD.
On the other hand, Sarada Prasanna Jena, a member of the party’s Discipline Committee, stated, “The committee is keeping a close watch on all developments. No one is being disobedient. Differences in ideology or opinion can exist, but if anyone makes statements that harm the party or its leadership, the party will review it. Discipline and order are present in every political outfit, and for the BJD, this has always been a priority. While there may be variations in views, everyone accepts Naveen Patnaik’s leadership. The committee is monitoring any allegations or counter-allegations. If any disorder arises, the committee will convene and seek Naveen Patnaik’s approval for the next course of action. If statements lead to damage for the party, the Discipline Committee will address it.”
The statements come at a time when the BJD is grappling with introspection after its setback in the recent elections, with leaders emphasising unity and adherence to the party’s core values under Naveen Patnaik’s guidance.
