Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will travel to Bargarh tomorrow to witness the world-famous Dhanu Yatra festival.
The event stands as one of the largest open-air theatre performances globally, and it dramatises Lord Krishna’s legendary journey to Mathura to defeat the demon king Kansa.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced the Chief Minister’s participation. Moreover, he explained that Majhi accepted a formal invitation from the actor portraying Maharaja Kansa. In keeping with tradition, the performer assumes symbolic authority as the “king” of Bargarh during the festival, issuing invitations and governing the town ceremonially.
Meanwhile, Dhanu Yatra transforms Bargarh into a massive stage for 11 days. Streets become Mathura, Ambapali turns into Gopapura, and the Jeera River represents the Yamuna. Thousands of artists and residents join the enactment, while lakhs of visitors from across India and abroad arrive to witness the spectacle.
Additionally, Minister Pujari highlighted the cultural importance of the festival. He emphasised its role in showcasing Odisha’s heritage and noted that the Chief Minister’s presence will enhance the prominence of the 2025 edition. The festival began recently with vibrant celebrations, and Majhi’s visit will further boost its grandeur.
Consequently, Dhanu Yatra continues to draw global attention by blending devotion, drama, and community participation.
